Dons manager McInnes hails the influence of Aberdeen’s unsung hero

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has hailed the contribution of unsung hero Andrew Considine, who returns to the squad for this weekend?s meeting with Partick Thistle.
Considine, who has made 418 appearances for the Reds, missed Saturday?s 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock through suspension with captain Graeme Shinnie deployed at left back in his absence.
McInnes believes the influence Considine has on the team is often overlooked.
He said: ?His teammates and myself as the manager really appreciate the value of Andy.
?I think he would be the first to acknowledge that he doesn?t always get the headlines that others get.
?You want your defenders to be solid, dependable and limit their mistakes throughout the season.
?We know we can rely on Andy and it is great to have him back available.
?It allows us to put Graeme Shinnie back in midfield.
?Although Graeme scored his goal from that left back area on Saturday and did very well in the game I always feel we miss his influence in the middle of the park.?
The Dons can close the gap on second-place Rangers to three points with a win on Saturday ahead of the Ibrox club hosting leaders Celtic the following day. A victory at Firhill would end a three-match winless sequence for the Reds and provide a timely boost of confidence ahead of Tuesday?s Scottish Cup quarter-final replay against Kilmarnock.
Dons assistant Tony Docherty hopes his side can enjoy a strong end to the season in both competitions.
He said: ?At the moment we are sitting in a healthy position.
?Our points tally is just about equivalent to what it was last year.
?We are sitting third in the league and still in a real fight for second.
?We are in the quarter-finals of the cup and with so much still to play for between now and the end of the season.
?It is important we have a really strong finish to the season and to do that we need the supporters right behind us.
?We can?t look too far ahead.
?Once we have dealt with the Partick Thistle game then we will focus on the cup.?
